The new resort will be built in Contrada Passione, on the coast of Polignano a Mare, Southern Italy
A number of restriction imposed by proximity to the sea and by environmental conditions, suggested to keep the new intervention’s visual impact as low as possible. Design inspiration came from nearby quarries { cave), partially hidden by vegetation. The idea of camouflage guided the entire design process. Taking advantage of the slightly sloping area and its relative extension, a series of short horizontal volumes were, apparently randomly, positioned in the lower part of the site and partially settled below ground level. No more than one meter construction will be visible from the highway so that panoramic views of the sea will not be obstructed. This way the entire intervention will appear as a series of white stucco and dry stone walls. Camouflage also acts through rooftops covering with earth and vegetation, just like nearby dismissed quarries.
